Cubism & Amédée Ozenfant
Tring School
2025
A Y7 project which introduces students to Cubism. The lesson begins with some observational drawings of some water vessels without any teaching. This is followed by some modelling on how to measure using a pencil and their drawings are revisited with this new knowledge.
The following task involves symmetry, whereby students are tasked with replicating the missing side of a vase using their pencil to measure the ‘peaks and valleys’ of the contour.
Their main task is to complete a final composition, drawing from real life water vessels and encouraging overlapping. Finally the students paint their drawings making use of complementary colours in the intersections of objects.
